Yep, today I am 51. I’m not going to be one of those women who lie about their age. What is it that Mark Twain said? Something about if you don’t lie you don’t have to remember anything. I figure the way I’m aging my memory is shot anyway, so why risk it?
I had a lovely weekend, thanks mainly to The Dude and our family and friends. Saturday’s party was filled with lots of good food, some home brewed beer, and loads of laughs! The Dude made amazing baked beans with loads of non-caloric bacon, and a terrific Sicilian Potato Salad filled with taters, capers, and red onion. He also made brats and fantastic hamburgers. YUM! And of course, I made dessert. We had Sugar Cream Pie and Blueberry Sugar Cream Pie, which is pretty darn delicious if I do say so myself.
The star of the show right here. Oh boy, do I love dessert! I think I need to go back to school to be a pastry chef.
Anyway… Sunday was much more laid back. After church, The Dude and I came home and crashed. We spent the day enjoying a bunch of shows that we had loaded up on the DVR. Now I don’t put a lot of stock in astrological signs, but I do relate to the duality of being born under the sign of Gemini. I have my sophisticated side that enjoys classic literature, theater, fine wine and classical music. HOWEVER, as The Dude says, sometimes living with me is like living with a 14 year old. I absolutely cannot resist low brow, off color, goofy humor. Which is why I spent Sunday catching up on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. I love this man! He swears, he has subversive hand puppets who litter their conversations with double entendres (I especially love Sid the Bunny who resides in North London and tells CBS to go F themselves), and he has a gay, robot skeleton sidekick named Geoff Peterson. What’s not to love? Watch his show weeknights at 11:35 PM on CBS. Or if you are a 51 year old lady like me who has to get up to go to work at 4:45 in the morning — DVR his show and watch him at a decent hour!
Okay, but today is my actual birthday and what am I doing? Well, I think The Dude is going to make me a lovely dinner and then we’ll probably just kick back, play with the dogs, take a look at the garden, watch some TV, and chill out. And that to me, sounds like heaven!
