Last night I had a great time making cannoli with my friend Aimee. The Dude made pasta arabiatta for dinner and then we commenced to frying up some delightful cannoli goodness!
The one thing I realized about half way through the process is that it REALLY makes your house smell like hot oil. Fine for when you’re making the cannoli, not so fine the next morning. I’ll be opening all the windows and lighting incense today to get rid of that smell. While studying acting in college, I had a friend, Cheryl, who was a grad student. She worked part time in a donut shop and she constantly smelled like hot donut oil. 😦 Let’s just say it smells like Cheryl is in my kitchen right now!
But I’ll take one for the team in order to have some lovely cannoli for Christmas dinner. Aimee and her husband, along with the Dude and his mom and I, are all gathering at Aimee’s house tomorrow night to create the filling for said cannoli. We’ll be sampling then and I’ll post some photos.
Today, I make Russian Tea Cakes. Ah, I love the holidays!
