It feels like autumn today, which makes me very happy because it’s my favorite season. This is when a young woman’s (okay middle-aged woman’s) fancy turns to sweaters, walks through falling leaves, homemade soup, a big harvest moon, pumpkins, and HALLOWEEN!
I absolutely love Halloween. Since I was a little girl I couldn’t wait to get all dressed up and go out with my friends and collect all that Halloween candy swag – Trick or Treat! When I got a little older – okay, when I reached my 20’s – it was all about getting dressed up and going to bars to collect all that Halloween cheer in the form of alcoholic beverages – Trick or Drink!
Now, it’s all about hosting the best Halloween party that I can come up with. I’ll admit, I’ve got a bit of Martha Stewart in me when it comes to this kind of thing. I used to host a Halloween party annually, but over the years it’s become a bit hit or miss. I realize that not everyone shares the same enthusiasm I do when it comes to getting dressed up and acting like a different person for the evening, so I’ve kind of backed off. Plus, alot of my friends live a fair distance away, so I know it means a special trip out to Casa de Eileen.
But lately I’ve been hearing the siren’s song and she’s telling me to host a Halloween party. My thoughts have turned to decorating (I’ve got a cellar full of decorations), costume ideas, menu suggestions, and invitation designs. Now all I need is for people to show up!
So, in an effort to be more interactive I’m taking a poll. How do you feel about the season of goblins and ghosties and things that go bump in the night? Do you enjoy getting creative, coming up with the best costume, and letting your hair down for an evening of fun? Let me know what you think.
