So, The Dude planned a non-birthday, birthday cookout for me for this coming weekend. Yes, it’s time for me to celebrate the start of my 51st year. Yippee… Note sarcasm. Please be aware that I did not want a party. What started as just a handful of people is now up to 16. I wanted to cook out, but now the friendly weather forecaster says that we are going to have thunderstorms. Lots and lots of thunderstorms.
So, I’m sitting here pondering what to serve. Of course I already have dessert planned because it is the most important part of the meal. I’m making a Hoosier favorite – Sugar Cream Pie (I’ll post the recipe in a bit) and The Dude is making his fabulous, decadent, and down right yummy chocolate cake. Because I asked him to and he’s a good guy. I figured if I was going to be forced to acknowledge my birthday, then I needed to mainline some chocolate to get through it.
But other than dessert and some of our fine homebrewed beer (which you’ll hear about in future posts), I got nuthin’ for the menu. Hopefully I’ll have decided before I go to the grocery store tomorrow. But in the meantime if anyone is reading this… give me suggestions for a fabulous, easy going meal for 16.
Not to be a stickler for details but…you’re starting your 52nd year (you wrap up number 51 Monday).
Watch it Dude. My age, when asked, will be 51.
